- 2 cups flour, sifted
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 5 Tbsp shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal
- Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and kneed gently for 1 minute.
- Roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness
- Cut with a biscuit cutter (I use a glass cup) dipped in flour.
- Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
